Brassai
Brassai was a self taught Hungarian photographer. He went to Paris, which he loved, in 1924 to become a journalist. When in Paris Brassai learnt french from reading many french books, he also met and became friends with many artists and intellectuals who went on to becoming some of the worlds most prominent artistic figures such as Salvador Dali, Pablo Picasso and Henri Matisse. Brassai loved walking the streets in Paris taking photographs in the night scene, of both people and deserted streets and squares. Brassai was fascinated with how society amused itself at night time, he loved to photograph the interesting characters that came out at night and the scenes that nighttime seemed to create. He was also very interested in Paris' high society and would often take photos of ballets, operas and portraits of intellectuals. Another thing Brassai is well known for is his surrealist photographs of object, taken at interesting angles and close up to manipulate the object so that people viewing his work would have something to think about instead of just looking at a picture of an object and moving on.
