My idea is 'Glow in the Dark'. My intention for this brief is to get a series of photos of different people painted with glow in the dark/neon paint to create a luminous effect and will be applied in diffent ways to make each photoshoot different.

MOOD BOARD-GLOW IN THE DARK
HIB SAIB
|
Hib Saib is a brazilian photogrpher, he specialises in neon paint photography. Saib stands on the top of the list of neon photographers, being acknowledged by many famous websites like Hypeness and Earth Portal for his work “Colourless”, “Imperfection”, and “Neon” . I found his work to be very creative, for example in a lot of his photographs he empashises the glow of the lips, making them stand out to the rest of the more subtle flicks on the face. He incorporates very bold and vibrant colours to his work which gives the photo more of a focus and creates more excitement as you look at it against the dark background. What I like about his work is that it looks very artistic and really grabs the eye because of the bright neon colours an the way he paints them onto peoples faces. |
photoshoot 1- experinment
For my first attempt of 'glow in the dark' I started off rather simple, I used a wide paintbrush and put neon paint at the end of the brush: then I used my finger to flick the paint onto my models face to give it more of a controlled splatter. I did this multiple times all over the face with different colours. The colours used were orange, pink, yellow and white (which shows up in the uv lighting as a pale blue). For the models lips I applied the neon orange paint to give it a bold colour, so that the shape of her lips would stand out and not fade away, I also added white uv paint on her eyelashes to show off her features so her face didn't get lost. I used a blacklight, against a black backdrop, to light the model so that you could see the uv paint brightly in the dark room. The glow in the dark effect made the model look like she was part of a galaxy, making the pictures much more quirky and unique as the bright colours and neon lips create an intergalactic look.

This photograph stands out against the others as the angle of the model creates a different dynamic and transforms the models face into a galaxy. The UV light brought out the flickers of paint on the higher areas of the model's face and shoulders and the angle highlighted the foreground while leaving the background in darkness, which creates an interesting photo and added depth to the image. The contrasting colour of the lips adds another dimension to the image, and defines the model's facial features so that her facial structure isn't lost to the background.

Photoshoot 3
For this shoot I changed the application of the paint and my technique, as I applied the paint more boldly, creating appealing patterns that add a different mood to the picture.

Here I experimented with different patterns which add a different mood to the types of photos i ended up with. The lines of contrasting paints create movement within the picture. I still used the splattered pain technique as I enjoyed the outcomes of it in the previous photos, and I really like the combination of the two techniques in this photo as I think it creates a lot of different moods and effects within this picture. This time I kept the hair dark in order to create an image where the focus of the photo transitioned into the darkness of the background as I think this looks really interesting. |

Here I combined all of techniques I mentioned above and I am very hapy with the outcome. I used two models in this shoot as I was inspired by Sarah Leal, and I think this adds more of a story to the photos as the interraction between the two and their body language and colours are intriguing. The photo creates the illusion that the two are almost attached, and this makes it interesting to look at as you find yourself trying to work out who is who and what is happening within the picture. |
photoshoot 5
For this shoot I was inspired by the photographer 'Nadine Schönfeld'. I used a wider range of colours and applied the paint on the main features of the models face and hair so that the model didn't get lost into the dark background and her face would stand out more. I applied green neon paint with a sponge on the roots of her hair to outline her head so it would fade away into the darkness. I also applied the green paint to her eyelashes with a clean eyelash brush which I also used to add pink neon paint to her eyebrows. I them used an eyeliner brush to apply the white neon paint on the line of her eyelids like eyeliner to define her eyes, and then applied the same white paint to her lips to make them stand out and look full and show off her facial features. I included her neck, chest and hands and used more bold colours and applied more paint to those areas using a paint brush, sponge and my hands to create a messy look so the colours blend and contrast. However I used a toothbrush to apply little flicks of paint to create a more spacey look on her face so that the paint didn't take over from the bold colours applied on her main features e.g eyes, eyebrows and lips.

In this phtograph the contrast in texture of the paint (the paint is brushed into the hair and splattered onto the face) again highlights the high points on my model's face; the brushed out areas accentuate the areas that are out of focus and add movement and softness to the image. The facial features are very defined as the paint is a block of colour rather than smaller dots meaning it picks up more light, and the cooler colours I used on them contrast with the other shades of warmer colours in the picture against the black background. The lighting creates the appearance of the model fading into the darkness, especially by the way the green paint fades dramatically into the darkness against the subtle fade from the face downwards.
photoshoot 6
For my third photo shoot, I used another female model focusing mainly on her back and chest. I used a more solid application of paint, using the colours orange and blue as my base due to the fact that these colours are complementary and stand out. The hand prints on her back create a cold glow against the warm colours on her back of orange and yellow. I experimented with shadows such as not applying and paint to her hands and angling the UV light so that a shadow is creates around the hand creating a dark contrast to the glow in the dark paint.

This photo stands out to me as the colours correspond and create a vibrant look. The base of her neck is a cool blue and the speckles of pink, red, purple and orange stand out against it as they are warmer colours and creates an appealing contrast. There is an outburst of bright colours which draw the eye onto the models features such as her collarbones. The face only has speckles of purple, pink and red which fits with the colour scheme of the rest of the body and emerges from the black background and compliments the outline of the models face.
