Double exposure Mood Board
My objective for my exam unit is to investigate the notion of symbiosis by creating a double exposure effect by combining a landscape photograph with a portrait photograph in order to portray the persons personality and to create an abstract mirage.

ANTONIO MORA
|
Antonio Mora is a Spanish artist who combines portraits photographed in various landscapes. This intriguing fusion is visually very interesting and brings together the beauty of nature and cities with the beauty of people, dissolving the two into one picture full of life and beauty. Mora's photography captures a variety of landscapes around the world creating an array of the world's wonders. |
Personal Favourite
This photograph by Antonio Mora is one of my favourites as the Venetian image fades elegantly into the model. The way the model is posing is harmonious to the lansdscape photograph, creating a romantic and graceful image that constructs a peaceful perception. I admire how the river flows into the model creating an allusion to the audiences eye that they are one image. Mora has used this allusion in order for his audience to use their imagination, for example my personal view is that the lanscape is a memory that is attached to the model. |

Personal Favourite
This image is one of my favourites of Brandon Kidwell as he has captured two incredible pictures and combined them together to make one incredible picture. I admire how he has used silhouettesand blended them into the portrait of the man; it stimulates the audiences imagines and shows a deeper meaning to the picture as a whole. In my opinion this picture reflects the man thinking of a positive and great memory. However that is what I love about this picture is the concept that it could mean anything you want it to mean. The way it has been editted is very professional and is a perfect example of double exposure. There is the mystery, the manipulation, and the aesthetic appeal.
Nature- landscape photo shoot one
Strongest Picture:
I have chosen this picture as one of my strongest images as I consider it to show a clear and focussed shot of nature which has been combined with the steps. I feel that this creates an image that shows a realistic perspective of how humans have adapted and changed the natural world in order to accomodate pedestrians who live in the busy city so that they can escape to the peaceful surroundings of nature and feel as if they are far away. I love the angle in which I took this photograph as it captures the detail of the plants and grass merging with the wooden steps as they grow smaller in the distance.

Flowers- landscape photo shoot two
Strongest Picture:
I have selected this photograph as the strongest in this photo shoot as it shows a shallow depth of field which is focussed mainly on the bunch of flowers on the lower branch. In doing this there is great detail in the petals whilst the background is out of focus, this complements and enhances the effect of the focussed flowers. Nevertheless, if I were to take this picture again I would improve the focus on the flowers that are captured close up as I feel that the photograph would look even better with the whole bunch in focus. I would go on a less windy day and I would make the shutter speed higher in order to get the full effect of the in focus flowers. Despite that I am very pleased with this photograph due to its aesthetic finish. |
Train Track- Landscape photo shoot three
Strongest pictures:
I have chosen this image as one of my strongest from my abandoned train track photoshoot as it captures the eye. In using a person to walk straight through the middle establishes a sense of risk and danger within the photograph which is edgier than other photographs without human present. This captivates the attention of the audience as the model is walking directly through the middle, and is aligned together creating an aesthetically pleasing appearance in the way this picture was captured. Looking at this picture you feel a rush of adrenaline as the model is walking down the train track to the unknown, creating a thrill. Another great factor in this photograph is the vantage point; the train track grows narrower the further away it is to the camera, just as it is with the model. It creates a new perspective and takes your mind somewhere else. This image also creates a sense of peace when I look into the distance of the photograph as the track is disappearing into the trees.
This image is another one of my strongest photographs as it is taken from a side view and in the opposite direction to the previously discussed picture. This photograph is creates a haunting feel, as you look down the track it keeps on going with no sense of life. What I admire about this photo is the emptiness and the peace. The way the track cuts through the trees and disappears into them creates an aesthetic appeal which stimulates your imagination to where the tracks lead. The image on a whole gives of a rustic vibe in which I will be able to play around with when I go on to the photoshopping process. |
Church- Landscape photo shoot four
Strongest picture:
This picture of the church is one of my strongest pictures due to the angle of the church, the random palm tree and the grey skies against the church; this allows the outline of the church to stand out creating a eerie presence. I was able to capture a good angle of church tower, standing over the rest of the building magestically.
Dhanisha- portrait photo shoot one
Strongest picture:
I have chosen this picture as my strongest as my model is looking thoughtful and is giving of a peaceful vibe. This image will go well with my nature photographs as her hair will be able to get a lot in and has a good texture for trees, grassland, plants etc. I went for a natural look as my model is going to combine with nature, therefore I wanted to capture a natural, bare look in order to jibe with the selected nature photograph.
Naomi- portrait photo shoot two
Strongest picture:
I have gone for this photograph as my strogest as the lighting and the side preview of the model will give definition and a structure when I edit the image and combine it with another image. My model is looking very neutral as I wanted to create a harmonious and calming atmosphere. I love the texture of the models hair and the perfect outline of her face. By having her back showing it gives more surface for when I blend in my landscape image.
Liera- portrait photo shoot three
Strongest picture:
I picked out this image as my favourite due to the elegant and tranquil appearance through the pose. Her posture is straight and her facial expression is neutral which produces a serene vibe. My model is wearing little make up to constitute a delicate manner.
Paula- portrait photo shoot four
Strongest picture:
This is my strongest image as my models pose is angelic and classy. I had the model looking up in order to create a sense of admiration and hope; this picture will go well with my pictures of the church as the model is graceful and elegant. The model is religious herself therefore I wanted to create a personal flare to the photograph in order to give it a deeper meaning. My model has red and pink eyeshadow, this makes her green eyes stand out more creating an aesthetically pleasing aspect.
Photoshop tutorial
In order to master the art of double exposure I watched a simple photoshopping tutorial on how to create the double exposure effect. I followed these 24 steps from the youtube video. After watching the video screen shotting the main instructions I experimented using my own photographs and with lots of practice, it became a quick and easy process.
step 24
Photoshop experiment
In order to get the look I wanted in these pictures, I followed the 24 step process shown above. However before starting the editting and adapting, I had to pick out two photographs that I felt went together effectively so that the picture gives aesthetic pleasure. Once selecting the photographs I wanted to blend together I then started to photoshop; I started with adjusting the levels and enhancing the vibrancy of the images. Then I went onto the process of combining the chosen pictures together. My first few tries took a while as it was slightly confusing, however after a couple of tries I had gotten the hang of the process and then was able to play around with the effects and perfect the photographs.
